Consisting of 140,000 acres, the Refuge provides a wide variety of habitats: coastal dunes, saltwater estuaries and marshes, freshwater impoundments, scrub, pine flatwoods, and hardwood hammocks provide habitat for more than 1,500 species of plants and animals.

Many recreational opportunities are offered at the Refuge. Bird and wildlife observation, a wildlife drive, manatee observation deck, fishing and hunting opportunities, and boating and paddling are examples of available activities.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Port Canaveral

port_canCruising from Port Canaveral has become phenomenally popular. Some 4.5 million cruise passengers climbed aboard in 2006, making it one of the world’s busiest – but least congested – cruise ports. Port Canaveral offers 3 day and 7 day cruises sailing to a variety of locations.

Looking for just an afternoon out to sea? Try sailing out on one of the Gambling ships to test your luck or just enjoy a day out on the ocean.

Port Canaveral also offers daily fishing charters or if you would like to fish but keep your feet on land, Jetty Park is one of the Space Coast’s most popular locations for salt water fishing.
